Unser Lieblingsroboter aus Kanada, Herr Solvent, kommt mit seiner ersten Veröffentlichung nach seiner Heirat über den Ozean, und dann auch noch auf 7", wie passend und überaus großartig! Zuerst wird meine Lieblingsdrumbox ausgepackt und gefunkt. Und wie. Und dann kommen diese stottrigen Oktavbässe und Harmonien, die alpine Bergseen glatt nach Toronto verlagern und wohl dafür verantwortlich sind, dass Sonntag Nachmittag plötzlich eine ganze Bärenfamilie mit Chips und Honig vor der Tür steht, nur um ein bisschen vor dem Fernseher abzuhängen. So läuft das in Kanada, der Mann in den Bergen hat das ja schon vorgemacht. Aber Bären haben nun einfach einen guten Geschmack. Und weil nichts in der Glotze kommt, werden Platten aufgelegt. B-Seitens geht die Geschichte dann nahtlos weiter, und so verbringt man Tage lange mit nur einer 7". Verrückte Welt. 5/5

Part of a review on three Bad Jazz releases.
A uniformly heartening trio of releases from the Bury St Edmunds-based label that lends the enquiry "Got any bad jazz records?" added piquancy... A more conventional [than previously reviewed 7" by Pimmon], though no less charmed strain of wordless wonder, comes from Solvent, the handle employed by Jason Amm, an analog-obsessed Canadian who claims to be a robot and aims to be timeless but instead sounds like the best bits from a youth club synth-pop convention.

Another brace of charming, leftfield electronica from the Bad Jazz label, with Solvent dropping a deeply melodious number of trebly keys complete with subliminal chatterings that recall BOC (not Blue Oyster Cult, mind).

Jason Amm has been very busy on the compilation front with tracks on a number of labels including one of Germany's finest, Morr Music. His contributions are always stand-out tracks and this latest 7" single is no exception. 'That will be 49¢' is perfect and reveals Jason's skill at wrapping refreshingly simple and honest melodies around lush production techniques. This is electronic music at its emotional best and I strongly recommend that you beg, borrow, steal or even buy this single. That's high praise indeed from a cynical, 'been there, done that' type like me. 10/10
