Suction Records is from the boring suberbs (!) of Canada. We're all about
edited scratched up broken drum machine distortion pedal new wave. Wenn das
kein Anfang ist. Und die Vorstadt scheint wirklich langweilig zu sein. Hier
bleibt viel Zeit zum Musizieren. Den umtriebigen David Kristian kennen wir von
seinen Breakexperimenten auf Worm Interface, Drop Beat etc. Auf dieser Split
12" klingt er aber dann doch anders. Zumindest auf "Vitreous". Nämlich so,
als hätte er mit seinem Kumpel Cylob Autechre zum Frühstück gegessen.
Distorted geht die Welt zugrunde. Und ist dabei noch funky. Vertrackte
Knatterei. Brilliant. Lowfish zaubert uns dann einen wunderbaren Midtempo
Breakbeat Track. Mit viel Filter und Gefühl und Melodie. Auf der anderen
Seite funktioniert alles genau andersrum. Lowfish startet jetzt elektroid,
minimal, verzerrt, David Kristian hat die Melodien gefunden. So scheint es
zumindest. Bis die singende Säge kommt... Liebe Plattenkäufer, nervt eure
Dealer. Sie sollen diese Platte bestellen. Das geht nämlich. Bislang haben
sie es nur nicht gemacht, wahrscheinlich weil gerade wieder irgendwelche
Drumcodes im Weg standen. Und bestellt schnell. Viele gibt es nicht. 4/5

to start with! The suburbs seem to be boring, indeed. People have loads of
time to do music here. We already know David Kristian from his breakbeat
experiments on Worm Interface, Drop Beat, etc. On this split 12", he sounds
different though. At least "Vitreous" is. It sounds a little bit like if he
and his mate Cylob had Autechre for breakfast. The end of the world will be
distorted. And funky. Lowfish delivers a wonderfully complicated chugging
midtempo breakbeat track. Loads of filters, feeling and melody. On the
flipside, all is the other way around. Lowfish kicks off electroid, minimal,
distorted. And David Kristian found a melody. At least this is what it sounds
like until the singing saw appears... Dear record buyers, please kick the
asses of your dealers. They should order this record. It is well possible
they just didn't do it so far, possibly because some new drumcodes were in
the way. And order fast, there are not too many around. 4/5
