Viereinhalb tracks auf dieser hübschen 10" unseres Lieblingslabels aus Kanada, zwei davon in Europa eingekauft. 'Pluxus' kommen aus Schweden und machen locker das Rennen. Ihr 'Ers Majestajestät' ist ein derart locker daherschwingendes, tief beeindruckendes Liebeslied, dass es einem die Sprache verschlägt und man sich fragen muss, warum Warp Plone gesignt haben und eben nicht Pluxus. Niemand entlockt alten Rhythmusboxen soviel Tiefe wie die drei Schweden. Aber auch die beiden Suction Betreiber Solvent und Lowfish haben sich ins Zeug gelegt, sich gemeinsam in Toronto ins Studio gesetzt, dem MS-20 die Pistole auf das Filter-In gesetzt, so dass der in die Jahre gekommenen japanischen Musikmaschine nichts anderes übrig blieb, als ihre letzten Geheimnisse auszuspucken. Der Titel '1982 For You' kommt nicht von ungefähr... Synthiepop, der zum Glück so nah am Klang der Originators bleibt, dass alles supi ist, denn schliesslich gibt es nichts Schlimmeres als so komische poppige Tracks von Leuten, die denken, nur weil sie auch eine Depeche Mode Maxi im Schrank haben könnten sie jetzt auf diesen Zug aufspringen und mal eben ihren Roland JP-8000 anschmeissen. Suction ist grösser, hier hängt das Hauptquartier mit Vince Clarke Originalanzügen voll...das scheint mir wichtiger. 'Brioche Kretzaal' aka Datathief aus Manchester hat genau verstanden, wie man bei den Suction Boys landen kann und lässt sich dann auch nicht lumpen, und wenn 'Lowfish' alleine unterwegs ist, als hätte er DJ Assault und Martin Gore zu einem Roundtable eingeladen und die genialen Absurditäten dieses Zusammentreffens direkt am modifizierten Minimoog nachgespielt. Gut, dass Roboter in Kanada so sorgenfrei leben können. 5/5

Four and a half tracks on this beautiful 10" from our favourite Canadian label, two of them bought in Europe. Pluxus are from Sweden and easily win the race on this record. Their 'Ers Majestajestät' is such a wonderful, relaxed, deeply impressive lovesong that you're left speechless for a while and ask yourself why Warp signed Plone and not Pluxus. No one gets so much deepness out of old rhythm boxes like the 3 Swedes. However, the 2 guys who run Suction also made a big effort - met up together in a Toronto based studio, pointed their gun at the filter-in of the MS-20 so that the now-old machine from Japan could do nothing else but reveal its final secrets. The title '1982 For You' does not come out of the blue... Synthiepop - Soundwise so close to the sound of the originators that everything is cool. You all know that there is nothing worse than poppy tracks from people who think, just because they liked Depeche Mode or Yazoo in the day, they could do tracks like that simply by switching on a Roland JP-8000. Suction is greater, their headqaurters are decorated with the suits Vince Clarke wore. Brioche Kretzaal, aka Datathief from Manchester, understood very well how to get a track on Suction. And when Lowfish works on his own, he sounds like he would have invited DJ Assault and Martin Gore for a virtual roundtable and recorded the ingenious absurdities on a modified minimoog. It's good to know that robots can live without troubles in Canada. 5/5

Acknowledging the influence of 80s synth pop groups like Depeche Mode, Human League, Soft Cell, and even Yazoo, Ontario based Suction's output defiantly rejects the increasingly hip hypercomplexity route to rhythm engineering. As their Assorted Pieces (suction007 10") label sampler demonstrates, their approach is based upon simple one-finger melodies and dmx beats, clever, interlocking sequences and 'classic' hooks. The four artists here offer a good introduction to the label's sound. Pluxus hit the mark with a cold, rising track of dmx patterns over a network of static, squeaky scratching and eerie pads before rippling, mercury melodies leave the listener treading water. Tinfoil Teakettle's "1982 For You" constructs a cool, dense weave of slipping textures and details, while Brioche Kretzaal turn in a plain cheesy nauseating pop melody sickeningly coated in syrupy analogue sounds.
