Hopelessly fascinated with 80's leftfield pop, Gerhard Potuznik aka GD Luxxe is one of the main shadowy players in the electroclash scene. With a massive catalogue of work behind him - including recent collaborations with Adult. and Chicks On Speed - GD Luxxe here flashes us with five tracks that he's been tinkering around with since 1986. Shamelessly retro, this is purely foot-tapping, bass-slapping electronic pop with vague brushes of eyeliner in all the right places. Completely melancholic synth rhythms blast us right back to the days of Soft Cell, Human League and Cabaret Voltaire while the ghost of New Order lingers over every pulse.

A self-confessed no obsessive, Luxxe lifts a bassline almost directly from Peter Hook for the excellent 'Words' while the vocals across all tracks echo Bernard Sumner almost word for word. 'Metawelt' meanwhile has such strong hints of Depeche Mode's 'People Are People' that Martin Gore couldn't be blamed for seeking a share of the royalties. They say talent borrows, genius steals however and this is one quite brilliant burglary. You'll grin, you will question what decade you're in and for the duration of 'Vendetta', your feet will hardly touch the floor.

Weswegen 5-Track EPs schon in der Albumsparte besprochen werden, muss wohl daran liegen, dass Eighties-Electro-Pop kurz vor dem Ausverkauf stehen. Den Hype noch schnell weitertragen bis er ausgebrannt ist. Aber das wäre der Veröffentlichung des großen Gerhard Potuznik unangemessen und eine kaum faire Kritik, nur weil es soviel Eighties-Scheiße gibt. Denn endlich sind einfühlsame und tiefergehende Vocalstücke auf dem Markt der Grausamkeiten angekommen. Stücke, die man gerne hört, weil sie sich bewusst zurückhalten. New Order. Okay. Aber wenigstens etwas was spielerisch mit den Elementen zeitgenössischer Produktionsmittel umgeht. Gerhard find ich gut. (fog).

Gerhard Potuznik has been making music since the 80s, so he's in a better position than most producers to release a synth pop EP. Taking inspiration from Soft Cell, as well as New Order - check the growling bassline on 'Words' - the real irony is that two of the tracks, 'Reasons' and 'Garden', were originally recorded by the Austrian producer during the decade of greed. As such, their deadpan vocals, tinny synths and bleepy electro sounds manage to achieve the rare feat of sounding retro and contemporary at the same time. 4 out of 5.

Zwei der vier electromantischen Retro-Futuristik-Stücke auf "Vendetta" hat Gerhard Potuznik, der Mann hinter GD Luxxe, in den späten 8øern geschrieben. Beat- und Songstruk- turn wurden nun etwas aufgepeppt und upgedatet. Zwischen der melodischen Wärme synthetischer Pop-Melancholien à la New Order und Poutzniks speziellem Zugang zum 8øern-Revivalismus werden hier also Lanzen bzw. Keyboardflächen für die Überzeugung gebrochen, dass funktionierende Songs auch einiges von ihrem musikalischen Gewand über die Zeit retten können. FG.
