Selections Recommended Oct.2007 It's been a long time since I posted a list of new music that I've been listening to, so here is a list of releases from the last couple of years that I recommend (in no particular order): V/A "Mute Audio Documents «1978 - 1984»" (10xCD boxset) I've had about 90% of the tracks on here memorized since I was 16, and I'm still awestruck. Best Music Ever. http://www.discogs.com/release/1025033 Oppenheimer Analysis (12", Minimal Wave) "The Devil's Dancers" is the best song I've discovered in the last 5 years or more - an absolute electro/wave classic. http://www.discogs.com/release/614851 Absolute Body Control "Tapes 81-89" (5-LP + 7" boxset, Vinyl-On-Demand) http://www.discogs.com/release/871196 Minisystem "Madingley" (CD, Noise Factory Records) A fellow analogue synth obsessive from Toronto - quality melodic electronica in the vein of early Morr Music releases. http://www.discogs.com/release/773657 The Tuss "Rushup Edge" (3x12" LP, Rephlex) Some great stuff on here, minus the drill and bass elements -- I thought/hoped AFX was done with all of that D'n'B/Squarepusher nonsense. http://www.discogs.com/release/975346 Lowfish "Persuasive Science EP" (12", Satamile) http://www.discogs.com/release/622466 Colin Potter "A Skeleton / Cupboard Situation" (LP, Vinyl-On-Demand) http://www.discogs.com/release/856231 Perspects "Peopleskills" (CD, Interdimensional Transmissions) http://www.discogs.com/release/654023 Goudron "Stiletto" (12", Interdimensional Transmissions) http://www.discogs.com/release/925044 The Ace Of Clubs "Benefist" + "Rubber Chunks EP" (2x12" + 12", Firstcask Records) I never liked Luke Vibert before, but lately he's been making some really cool acid techno/electro. http://www.discogs.com/release/984208 http://www.discogs.com/release/981796 Luke Vibert "Analord" (track, Planet Mu) Better than anything in the entire AFX series named after this track, IMO. http://www.discogs.com/release/430748 Travelogue "Telegraph" (CD-EP, Plastiq Musiq) http://www.discogs.com/release/646795 Joy Electric "The Otherly Opus" (CD, Tooth & Nail) http://www.discogs.com/release/932952 ADULT. "Plagued By Fear" (track, Thrill Jockey) The "Why Bother?" album has its moments for me, but this is the only song I can listen to a lot -- definitely my favorite ADULT. track since "Resusitation". http://www.discogs.com/release/918869 All-Time Favourites Solvent's top 10 featured in recent "Listed" column at Dusted Magazine. These are my all-time favorite records. I know this because I play them over and over again, year after year, and they always sound brilliant and timeless...
These are records that made a huge impact on me. I don't play these all the time, but they are still very important records to me:
Some other artists who have made a big impact but don't seem to fit into the above lists (I can't really think of a "definitive" release):
